Nanako Matsumoto co-directs the performance duo team chiipro with Kengo Nishimoto, and primarily works as a choreographer and performer. The duo engages in artistic practices centered on "dance" as a methodology for critically engaging with the body. Two of their collaborative works, presented at KYOTO EXPERIMENT in 2021 and 2022, received critical acclaim and have since been presented throughout Japan and internationally.
Using lecture-based formats, team chiipro interweaves text readings and dance based on meticulous research, through which Nanako explores the choreographic language that emerges from the body’s transformative potential through the concept of “Yokai Body.” In recent years, she has focused on female figures traditionally associated with “madness” (for example, in the work nanako by nanako (2024), she examines the iconography of Charcot's hysteria patients, and in Sticky Hands, Stitched Mountains (2024, 2025), she examines the “Yamanba”). She critically reinterprets the image of “madness” and the violent process of othering that produces it, attempting to reframe madness as a form of physical resistance and a gesture of life.
Furthermore, collaboration has become central to her recent practice. The performance piece Sticky Hands, Stitched Mountains, developed in collaboration with Anchi Lin (Ciwas Tahos), whom she met at ADAM Artist Lab, was presented at festivals in Kyoto, Taipei, and Sydney in 2024–2025. The two artists continue their experimental dialogue, intersecting queer-feminist perspectives to envision the commons.
She is a Saison Fellow I of the Saison Foundation for the periods 2023–2024 and 2026–2027.
松本奈々子は、パフォーマンスユニット「チーム・チープロ」を西本健吾と共同主宰。主に振付・出演を担当。身体を批評的に扱う方法論として「踊り」にまつわる芸術実践をおこなう。これまで綿密なリサーチを基にしたテクストの朗読と踊りを織り交ぜるレクチャー・パフォーマンスの形式でダンス作品を発表してきた。西本と制作したダンス作品は2021年秋および2022年のKyoto Experimentにて発表。その後国内外のフェスティバルに招聘。 作品を制作する過程で彼女は<化け>のための振付言語 妖怪bodyを生み出し、女性の身体性を探求する。近作ではとくに狂気と結び付けられてきた存在（《nanako by nanako》（2024）では「19世紀シャルコーのヒステリー患者」、《Sticky Hands, Stitched Mountains》（2024-2025）では「山姥」）に着目し、「狂気」のイメージとそれを生み出す暴力的な他者化のプロセスを捉え直し、狂気を身体的な抵抗／生の身振りとして再定義することをこころみている。 また、近年の活動の中核にコラボレーションがある。ADAM Artist Labで出会った林安琪（CIwas Tahos）とのコラボレーションで実現したパフォーマンス作品は《Sticky Hands, Stitched Mountains》で、京都、台北、シドニーのフェスティバルで2024-2025年に発表。クィアフェミニスト的な視点を交差させ共有地（コモンズ）を構想するふたりの実験的対話は続いている。 2023–2024年度、2026–2027年度 公益財団法人セゾン文化財団 セゾン・フェローⅠ。
